Bourbon Apple Crisp

After the week we’ve had, you may be asking yourself how to incorporate alcohol into every meal. We’ll I’ve got your answer: Bourbon Apple Crisp.

You know that any and all fruit desserts are fair game for breakfast, so now bourbon is, too! And with Thanksgiving family time right around the corner, this recipe could become a new staple.

All kidding aside, there really isn’t that much bourbon. But it adds a nice flavor, and offered plenty of inspiration for future spike apple cider recipes. Plus, who doesn’t want something warm and cinnamon-y this time of year?

First, pulse the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a food processor to blend. Bourbon Apple Crisp - 1 Bourbon Apple Crisp - 2Then add the butter and pulse until sandy in texture.Bourbon Apple Crisp - 3 Bourbon Apple Crisp - 4Pour into a separate medium bowl and stir in the oats.Bourbon Apple Crisp - 5For the apples, peel and slice about 8 cups worth and stir together in a large bowl with the maple syrup, bourbon, and lemon juice. Pour into a 9-inch square baking dish.Bourbon Apple Crisp - 7Before I go on, is there anything more satisfying then peeling an entire apple in one piece?Bourbon Apple Crisp - 6Look at that. I peeled an extra apple than I needed to because I wanted to achieve this so badly. It’s nice when you finally reach the goals you set for yourself.

Anyways, spread the topping evenly over the top to cover the apples. Bourbon Apple Crisp - 8Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling.Bourbon Apple Crisp - 9Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack.Bourbon Apple Crisp - 10Serve warm or at room temperature. Either way, ice cream should be involved.
