Soft Pretzels

So I’ve made pretzels before. But that was back in 2014. And, really, I’ve been at this blog for almost seven years – I think it’s probably time to start revisiting recipes, since I’m about 1000% sure I’m more proficient now than I was when I first started. Don’t worry, I’ll still predominantly be making new things. But when circumstances present themselves that seem to require a repeat, I’m not going shy away from it. This week, obviously, is Super Bowl. Which is a perfect reason for pretzels. Especially because I’m watching Super Bowl at my apartment with my work

Ginger Sugar Cookies

For my last post of 2019, I have one more Christmas cookie for you – Ginger Sugar Cookies. I wanted one more drop cookie for my cookie tins this year, and a sugar base is as good as any this time of year. Plus, I saw that the Star Market near me sold crystallized ginger, which, weirdly, Whole Foods doesn’t. Start by whisking together the flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar in a medium bowl. Set aside. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the

Whopper Cookies

This recipe comes from a text Erik sent me (probably a month ago) saying that I HAD to make these cookies and how good they were. Well, he’ll be here in 3 days, and he wasn’t wrong – I just hope there’s still some left when he gets here! First, melt some butter. And by some, I mean quite a bit. Next, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch and salt in a large bowl. Set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar until no lumps remain. Add the eggs and vanilla extract

Reese’s Pieces Cookies

I had such a baking-ful week! In addition to making these cookies, I also made pumpkin bread (which I’ll post next week), sourdough bread (which I’ll post at some point), and Trout Farm Apple Pie! Having this blog, I don’t often get to make a recipe more than once, since I always need something new for the weekend and a girl can only make so many recipes in a week. But when some friends invited us over for dinner, and I’d already made plenty of new stuff, I realized I had a chance to make one of my favorite recipes

Homemade Oreos

This week, I baked for the first time in my new kitchen! Spoiler alert: it was awesome. Plenty of counter space. Pretty new toys to play with (read: stainless steel mixing bowls). And a whole new group of people to eat the end product! Plus, central air conditioning, which means turning on the oven was not the horrific experience it could have been in this insanely hot summer we’ve been having.

Gluten Free Chocolate Cookies

I’m usually pretty wary of gluten free recipes that seem to be making odd substitutions, or just eliminating flour and thinking the baked good will come out the same. If they don’t do that, they require weird ingredients (has anyone ever actually found xanthan gum?) before they’ll reach a kind of close-to-right consistency.
